The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) statistics show that:
Statistics show that fires involving cooking oil are still causing injury despite changing trends in cooking practices.
With the advent of modern open plan living, kitchens can often form part of a dwellings fire escape route.
Fire blankets are fine if you are there to oversee the fire, however many fires are from unattended cooking for various reasons.
Ideal for areas where multiple small cooking areas are present such as HMO’s, student accommodation studio flats, etc.
The system uses small amounts of extinguishant and can be located in an adjacent cupboard or a suitable extract hood and it can be easily retrofitted to existing equipment to avoid the need for complicated detectors and electronics.
The routes are sufficiently protected from fire where necessary
Automatic Fire Suppression Systems are active 24/7 and not reliant upon external power sources to operate them.
The systems uses a patented linear detection tubing which is installed throughout the risk area (extractor hood) and connected to the cylinder valve. The tubing is then charged with nitrogen and this pressure is utilised to hold back the extinguishant in the cylinder. Should a fire occur the pressurised tubing will burst and the extinguishant will be deployed from the fixed nozzles onto the fire. The extinguishing agent, in combination with the hot oil/fat will start a chemical reaction known as Saponification. This creates a thick “foam” like blanket which separates the oxygen from the fuel and cools the surface.
The pressure switch which is attached to the valve can be used to either cut off the electricity to the hob or cut the gas off from it. (We would not recommend that you use a system that cannot Shut down power or gas as an unattended fire may restart if the electric is not shut down and gas would continue to flow which would cause a greater hazard).
A full design, installation and after sales service is available and is recognised by most major insurers.
All our systems are CE marked and manufactured under our ISO 9001:2015 quality system.
